Location: Bedfordshire, England, UK
We are looking for a PHP developer/software engineer to join our team to assist in the development of web services and sites to support mobile apps. You will work with our other server developers to maintain PixelMags' API and admin tools, and will also work on developing new features, and providing ongoing performance optimisation within our API and database. You will work closely with our client applications team to deliver reliable, efficient web services to support new and existing client platforms.
Our web services are written in PHP 5x, utilising the CodeIgniter framework, so a strong knowledge and experience of PHP is essential, and experience with other languages (such as Ruby, Java) and environments is advantageous. Part of the business critical systems are written in Python, so a working knowledge of Python would also be useful. A thorough working knowledge of MySQL and optimised SQL queries is required. Ideally, you would have an understanding of multi threaded applications, deadlocks, row/table blocking, race conditions, compound index usage etc, and be able to demonstrate good code design principles.
You must also feel comfortable with managing your own development environment (WAMP/MAMP/LAMP etc). We are looking for an individual with a methodical and meticulous approach to software engineering; both programming and process. Good communication skills are needed to meticulously document the process and work effectively with the application engineering teams.
This is a full-time position, working from our office at Wrest Park, Silsoe, Bedfordshire, UK. Salary L27K, dependent on experience.
You must have a minimum of two years' experience. (This needn't be commercial experience if you can demonstrate a range of personal projects.)
